நம்பியாண்டார் நம்பி அருளிச் செய்த
கோயில் திருப்பண்ணியர் விருத்தம்
பதினோராந் திருமுறை

திருச்சிற்றம்பலம்

ஆகம் கனகனைக் கீறிய கோளரிக்கு அஞ்சி விண்ணோர்
பாகம் கனங்குழையாய் அருளாய் எனத் தில்லைப்பிரான்
வேகம் தரும் சிம்புள் விட்டு அரி வெங்கதம் செற்றிலனேல்
மோகம் கலந்தன்று உலந்ததன்றோ இந்த மூவுலகே.

Meaning of the Prayer Song:

 Fearing the lion (Narasimha) that tore apart the
body of the Hiranya, when the celestials prayed,
"Oh the One with Kuzhai in one side! Please save!",
the Lord of Thillai sent the fast Sarabha to quench the anger of Hari.
If He didn't, all the three worlds would have got withered out.

 Notes: 

1. paNNiyar - dancer; Akam - body; kanakan - Hiranyan; kOLari - lion; simpuL - sarabham;
vengkatham - fierce anger.

2. Koyil thiruppanniyar viruththam
Since these are the glories of Lord Shiva at Thillai
enacted by the dancers in that temple, this composition is
called Koyil thiruppanniyar virutham.

3. In this song Nambiyandarnambi has extoled the Sarabheshwara 
form of the Lord. Since Vishnu was furious after tearing apart the demon Hiranyan
and drinking his blood, everyone was quite scared of his anger and prayed to Lord Shiva.
Lord Shiva sent the Sarabha - which is a form of both lion combined with a bird - 
subduing the anger of Mahavishnu. 

4. This has been refered in other places in thirumurai too

ஒடுக்கிய மேனியோ டூண்இரப் பார்ஒள் இரணியனை
