Meaning of the Prayer Song:

 I willfully commit sin, have a wavering mind on the things,
am an eternal traitor, have meanness as the permanent home;
don't know even the smell of the virtues.
Even if I am this way, having fallen at Your feet-lotus,
oh the Enemy of Kama, it is not appropriate for You to
disregard me, the distressed!

 Notes:

1. chapala - wavering; santata - ever; kArpaNya - meanness;
gandhA - smell; abhij~ja - know; prapannam - fallen at;
upEkShitum - disregard.

2. I am all filthy. What is the surprise in that?
As a bonded soul that is what I am.
Oh Lord You are Pure, full of Mercy.
I have fallen on Your Feet!
It would not be in line with Your mercy, if You
disregard me as filthy.

c.f. குன்றே அனைய குற்றங்கள் குணமாம்
    என்றே நீ கொண்டால்
  என் தான் கெட்டது; இரங்கிடாய் - திருவாசகம்
