thirunana koil rAjakOpuram

  • As the Lord here protects the devotees from the arrival of harm to the devotees, the abode is named Thirunana.
It is also called Bhavani, and due to the confluence of Kaveri and Bhavani  as Bhavanik Koodal.
  • Also known as Badrikashramam. The Temple Tree - Ilantai (Badri) tree in the south-west corner of the temple is special. It is believed that the Veda itself has been this tree. It was here that Lord Shiva gave darshan to Kubera as Swayambhu Murthy. This tree gives delicious fruits daily to the Lord.
The Gayatri Lingeswarar Temple is located at the confluence of the Cauvery and Bhavani rivers. Sage Vishwamitra chanted the Gayatri Mantra and installed the Shivalinga and hence the name Gayatri Lingeswarar.
  • This abode also has the name Padmagiri. It is surrounded by Nagagiri, Vedagiri, Mangalagiri and Shankhagiri.
  • Kubera visited this place when he was on a pilgrimage.  He was amazed to see many sages doing penance there and cows, tigers, elephants, lions drinking water together without enmity. When Kubera did penance at that place, Lord Shiva appeared here as Swayambhu under the Ilantai tree and blessed him.  Due to the worship of Kuberan, the ruler of Alaga puri, the Lord got the name Alagesan and the place got the name Dakshina Alagai.
  • It is also known as Mukoodal, Parasara Kshetra, Vakrapuram, Veerapuram, Vijayapuri.
  • During the British rule in the 19th century, A Britisher by name Mr. Garo (W.GARO) was the District Collector. He came to Bhavani due to his administrative responsibility and stayed at the Inspector's house. At night when he was sleeping, there was thunder and lightning. A small child came and took hold of the sleeping Collector by the hand and quickly dragged him outside. The next moment the roof of the building collapsed with a loud crash. Knowing what had happened, Collector looked back. He saw the child who woke him walking. He called, but as if she didn't hear, the child kept going without turning back. He followed quickly. Before he could reach the child, the child entered the temple and disappeared. He was astonished and overjoyed to realize that Mother Vedambhikai-Vedanayaki herself had come in the form of a child and saved him. He intended to have darshan of Ambika. People of other religions are not allowed to enter the temple, so he made a hole in the outer wall of the Ambal Sannidhi and had fulfilling darshan of Ambal through it. As a mark of gratitude, the Collector gifted Ambika an ivory swing for coming out in midnight and saving him. This incident took place on the 11th day of January 1804. Anbar Mr. The Shivas It is included in the book “Kongu Nattu Koyilkal” written by Sivakalai Sri. Subbiah.
