Why Can We Not See God With Our Eyes?

Prayer of the Day

Prayer from Thiruvarutpayan (திருவருட்பயன்)

உயிரவை நிலை

ஊமன் கண் போல ஒளியும் மிக இருளே
யாம் மன் கண் காணாதவை.  19

Song as Romanized text

uyiravai n-ilai

Uman kaN pOla oLiyum mika iruLE
yAm man kaN kANAthavai.  19

Meaning of the Prayer Song:

For the eye of the owl even sunlight is blinding darkness,
Like that our (physical) eye cannot see (the Subtle Truth)

 Notes:

1. Uman - owl.

2. Umapathi Sivam in this song describes the limitation of the
instruments of the souls.
Some argue that a God who cannot be seen, does not exist.
God is indeed everywhere. However, our gross instruments
do not have the capability to see that Subtle Truth.
God reveals Itself to the mature in their experience.
