ऋषि : दीर्घतम दॆवता : विश्वॆदॆवाः छन्दस् : जगती ॐ गौ॒रीर्मिमाय सलि॒लानि॒ तक्ष॒त्यॆक॑पदि द्वि॒पदी॒ स चतु॑ष्पदी । अ॒ष्टाप॑दी॒ नव॑पदी बभू॒वुषी॑ स॒हस्रा॑क्षरा पर॒मॆ व्यॊ॑मन् ॥ १. १६४.४१ ॥ ॐ

Meaning of the Prayer Mantra:

The subtle speech stirs up surging and splits into one foot, two feet, four feet, eight feet, nine feet and multitude - into thousands of syllables, covering up the space above.

Notes:

1. gaurI - the subtle speech; mimAya - stir up; salilAni - surging; takShati - splits; vyOman - space. 2. The speech has four parts - para, pashyanti, madhyama, vaikari. The first three are subtle. The subtle speech that stirs up is what becomes multiple forms filling up this whole space. 3. c.f. Udgita upasana told in the Chandogya Upanishad.
