The One with the fierce snake garland around the chest, is neither the one in divines nor the one subjected to death ! Notes: 1. A highly rich poem of great philosophical significance. The God as aShTa mUrthi stays in various elements (as hailed by sAmaveda too, "ye devAdevAH divi ShadaH..." (devavratAni)). But still the Supreme is not these elements. It is beyond all these ! It is not something measurable by the knowledge ! Still, "because of Its Grace", It takes various glorious forms easily comprehendible like the umaiyorubAgan (ardanArIshvara). It cannot be counted just by adding one to the count of devas. It is "the" Eternal ! This song is one of the key ones supporting the basics of shiva sidhdhantha. 2. nyAyiRu - sun; madhi - moon; eri aravu - fierce snake; Aram - garland; imaiyAr - devas; imaippAr - mortal.
