மந்திர மாவது நீறு வானவர் மேலது நீறு
சுந்தர மாவது நீறு துதிக்கப் படுவது நீறு
தந்திர மாவது நீறு சமயத்தி லுள்ளது நீறு
செந்துவர் வாயுமை பங்கன் திருஆல வாயான் திருநீறே.

Meaning:
Holy Ash is the mantra; Holy Ash is over the celestials (devas); Holy
Ash is the charm; Holy Ash is the adorable; Holy Ash is the tantra
(Agama); Holy Ash is in the religion (rituals); It is the Holy Ash of
the Lord of thiruvAlavAy (madhurai), Who in His part of the body has
the Goddess uma of ruby red lips.
Notes:
1. This was the song sung by the saint applying Holy Ash to cure the
disease of pANDya emperor.
2. Holy Ash is one of the most adored ornaments of devotees. Lord shiva
being the form of Supreme Flame (worshipped as shiva lingam), the
ornament on It is the Holy Ash. The Lord danced "pANDaraN^gam" on the
