The Puranam of Tiruvaaroor-p-Piranthaar Nayanar

(tiruvArUr-p-piranthAr nAyanAr purANam - Periyapuranam as English poetry)

		"I am a servitor of all born at Tiruvaaroor"

						- The Tiru-th-Tonda-th-Tokai.

1. He is with form and without form; He is the Lord
	Who is omneity; he is the bridegroom of Umai of fragrant hair;
	Does it lie in my power to articulate with my lips
	The servitorship of those born at Tiruvaroor
	Which is joyously ruled by the Lord? (4158)

2. As those born at Tiruvaaroor of ever-crescent glory Are truly the divine Ganas of Lord Siva Himself who is Enthroned at Tiru-k-Kayilai, the noble way Is theirs, who having quelled their prideful Pentad of senses, adore and get Endowed with integrated consciousness. (4159) ---------------- NOTES Verse No. 1. Tiruvaaroor is a hoary city. It is truly Sivapuram. The adage says that he who gets born at Tiruvaaroor is twin-born with mukti (deliverance). It was here the Sangita Mummoorti-s, namely Tyagaraja, Mutthuswamy Dikshitar and Shyamaa Saastrikall were born. Every being born in Tiruvaaroor is sacred. When the ministers of Manuniti Chola appealed to him not to punish with death his only son whose chariot fortuitously ran over a calf, the king answered thus: “He killed a being that took birth in Tiruvaaroor where abides peerlessly enshrined the Lord-God, Hailed gloriously by Indra, Vishnu, Brahma and others; So, death is the punishment meet for him; Know this to be my well-considered verdict irrevocable.” Here ends the Puranam of Tiruvaaroor-p-Piranthaar
