The Puranam of Sataiya Nayanar

(sataiya nAyanAr purANam - Periyapuranam as English poetry)

		"I am a servitor of Sataiyan who had reached
		The feet of Hara, my Lord."

						- The Tiru-th-Tonda-th-Tokai

1. He was a friend of the Lord and he bade Him
	Ply as his messenger to her-- verily a flowery liana--,
	That would embrace his broad shoulders;
	He, Nampi Aarooran, the peerless friend
	Of Ceramaan Perumaan, was engendered
	By Sataiyan that the world might thrive. (4227)

NOTES

Verse No.

These saints are the parents of St. Sundarar. The eleventh verse of the Tokai sung by St. Sundarar is his signature-verse. St. Sundarar hailed, in all sixty Naayanmaar. As his signature-verse contained his name and the names of his parents, St. Nampi Aandaar Nampi in his amplified version of the Tokai included these in the calendar of Naayanmaar. The number of the individual Naayanmaar was therefore reckoned as 63 by St. Sekkizhaar. Not only that. St. Sundarar is the hero of the Periya Puranam. Here ends the Puranam of Sataiya Naayanaar

Sincere thanks to Sri. T N Ramachandran of thanjavur, for permitting his English rendering of the holy text periyapurANam be published here.
