The Puranam of Appaalum Ati-ch-Chaarnthaar Nayanar

(appAlum atichArnthAr nAyanAr purANam - Periyapuranam as English poetry)

"I am a servitor of the servitors of Appalum Ati-ch-Chaarnthaar"

							- The Tiru-th-Tonda-th-Tokai.

1. Those devotees that dwell beyond the realms of the three
Tamil monarchs and who are blessed with at-one-ment
With the feet of the First One, and those serviteurs
That flourished before the advent of the holy
	Tiru-th-Tonda-th-Tokai inseparable from the lips
Of Nampi Aaroorar and those that would flourish after
Its advent, for ever linked to the feet of the Lord
Whose flag sports the Bull and in whose flower-bedecked
And long matted hair adampu, tumpai, Ganga and Konrai
Flourish, are indeed hailed as Appaalum Ati-ch-Chaarnthaar.” (4169)

2. When he was on his way to the opulent Tirumurukanpoondi Of the Lord who with His bow of Mount Meru Burnt the triple hostile cities, all the heaps of riches Wrenched from (his retinue) by the encircling bowmen, Were borne by the pre-eminent Bhootha Ganas of the Lord Who is concorporate with Uma of ever-tender breasts; Such was his boundless beatitude; so, I, the humble servitor Should have truly wrought great tapas in my previous births To hail his aukleted feet divine. (4170) ---------------- NOTES Verse No. Servitors of Siva are ubiquitous. There was no time when these were not. In one sense Prof. Shulman, Prof. Yocum, Ms. Koppedrayer and the like come under this category. May their tribe increase. Place or time cannot constrict them. They flourish for ever. It is these who really, actually and factually sustain Saivism. Their number is legion. Here ends the Puranam of Appaalum Ati-ch-Chaarnthaar
