Prayer of the Day
Prayer from Rig Veda
हवी॑मभि॒र्हव॑तॆ॒ यॊ ह॒विर्भि॒रव॒स्थॊमॆ॑भीरु॒द्रं दि॑षीय ।
ऋ॒दू॒दरः॑ सु॒हवॊ॒ मानॊ॑ अ॒स्यै ब॒भ्रुः सु॒शिप्रॊ॑ रीरधन्म॒नायै॑॥ २.३३.५ ॥
Mantra as Romanized text
havImabhirhavatE yO havirbhiravasthOmEbhIrudraM diShIya |
RudUdaraH suhavO mAnO asyai babhruH sushiprO rIradhanmanAyai|| 2.33.5 ||

Meaning of the Prayer Mantra:
One Who is worshipped with oblations,
that Lord Rudra, we invoke with praises propitiating the Lord!
(That Lord) Who is pleasant by nature, easily worshipped,
Reddish-brown with an enchanting face
shall not cause misery in our mind!
1. havi - oblation; stoma - praise / hymn; RudUdara - of pleasant inner nature;
suhava - easily invoked; babhru - reddish-brown; sushipra - of beautiful face.
God is the one to be hailed with oblations.
When one goes to a temple to worship or
invokes God in the fire, it is appropriate to always
provide some appropriate offering.
In another way God is the One worthy of giving the offering
(though God has no need for the offering!).
All others whom we try to propitiate are limited both
by their capabilities and intention.
Our Supreme may appear fierce or pleasant (c.f. 25 Maheshwara Murtham.
But always has the intent of grace on us
- like a loving parent who hugs or scolds the child
caring for the well-being of the child.
Easily invoked and easily pleased.
The God is both Sadyojata (immediately invoked)
as well as Asutosha (easily pleased)

God Shiva is the form of copper - dawn - gold!
c.f. பொன் செய்த மேனியினீர் - சுந்தரர்
As Lord Shiva is always showering the grace on the
soul uplifting them, we see only the pleasant
beautiful face of the Lord! This is the pleasant face
that ever keeps in Bliss the elevated souls that
achieved the moksha state.
7. mA rIradhan manAyai
May God not make misery in my mind.
Why would an auspicious God inflict misery?
The misery is due to our own karma.
God feeds to us the effects of both good and
bad karma of our own to mature and leave both
to orient ourselves only to what God provides.
(This balance view of the good and bad is the
qualification for liberation.)
At that point God ever keeps showing Bliss
which is independent of the fruits of karma.
